Eddie Schlafly, Ph.D.

Dr. Eddie Schlafly earned his bachelor’s in Physics at Stanford University and Ph.D. in Physics at Harvard University.  He currently works as an Astronomer at the Space Telescope Science Institute (STSci), which runs the James Webb and Hubble space telescopes.  He analyzes data from telescopes and develops future space astronomy missions.

“I've been interested in science writ large since elementary school, but I became interested in plotting after starting to do research.  A good plot is often what you need to solve your research problem, be it to convince your colleagues of your result, to identify a problem in your experiment, or to find a bug in your code.”

MDH

My name is Miguel Delgado Helleseter, but I often go by MDH. I suppose I’ve been doing data science for quite a bit longer than I have known it to be called data science. Data visualizations are an important tool for data science. As an economist, I've found that much of my work is about storytelling, and data visualizations are a great tool for telling stories. I am currently the Chair of the Business and Economics programs at the Martin V. Smith School of Business & Economics. In addition, I run a research institute within the school, the Institute for Global Economic Research.

Scott Feister

Scott Feister specializes in scientific computing: using computers to solve scientific challenges of the 21st century. This specialty is at the intersection of computer science, mathematics, and the natural sciences. In his research, Scott creates data systems and electronic devices for scientific laboratories, performs supercomputer simulations of physical processes, and analyzes large experimental datasets. His conception of teaching is to motivate students to learn, give them access to knowledge, and work with them to apply their knowledge in real-world contexts.
